Gemalto expands Linux terminal range

Gemalto is expanding its MagIC3 range of POS terminals with a new model, MagIC3 W-1, for wireless payments that doesn’t need an extra subscription or additional communication fees.

It is designed for use in restaurants and outdoor retail outlets. Several unspecified financial institutions are deploying the terminal in Europe and in Asia, according to Gemalto.

The product family incorporates the Open&Sec technology running on Linux and uses USB to connect peripherals such as cheque and barcode readers, Wi-Fi dongles or electronic cash registers. It also has an Ethernet broadband connection to offer fast, secure transactions.

MagIC3 W-1 has obtained PCI PIN-PED and EMV worldwide certification.
Gemalto has shipped more than half a million MagIC3 series payment terminals.
