Payments Cards and Mobile is delighted to welcome you back to its third supplement on Test Tools.
The area of test tools is too often neglected in the wider payments industry but their purpose is three fold. Firstly to evolve with the industry and any new technologies, standards and interoperability which allows other vendors and manufacturers to beta test their equipment as soon as it is ready and thus increase speed to market.

Advanced Payments supplement
In spite of the hype around mobile, most players – financial institutions, mobile operators, technology companies, platform providers, merchants, and others – consider the mobile channel so significantly important that their future strategic and investment plans have been built around it.
A stakeholder survey was undertaken online jointly by Edgar, Dunn & Company (EDC) and Payments Card & Mobile magazine (PCM) which focused primarily on advanced payments.

What are advanced payments?
There is no standard definition of advanced payments. For the purposes of this supplement, we have included three types of payment categories: Online, contactless, and mobile payments.
This categorisation is made in the context of current debates, customer perceptions and discussions with payment industry professionals. There are other areas that could be reviewed as advanced payments but have not been included, primarily to manage the scope of this supplement.
A stakeholder survey was undertaken online jointly by Edgar, Dunn & Company (EDC) and Payments Card & Mobile magazine (PCM) over November and December 2010 which focused primarily on advanced payments.

European Payment Card Fraud Report 2010
European Payment Card Fraud Report 2010
Payment card fraud is a major concern across Europe, and the major driver of EMV implementation. But how do fraud losses compare between markets? This is the third short report looking at trends and developments in payment card fraud. The first report, published in late 2008, focused on the scale of fraud losses in Europe, and how they compared between countries. It drew on data available for France, Spain and the UK to analyse the level and composition of fraud losses across the three markets. The 2009 report extended the analysis to include the Netherlands. The 2010 report takes a more thematic approach.

INSIDE FRAUD sponsored by VISA
Fraud is one of the most fascinating aspects of our industry, not least because it is relentless and mutating. While overall, this comparison between card fraud losses and types in the Spanish, French, British and Dutch markets suggests that fraud losses are being contained as a proportion of card turnover, there is no room for complacency. Payments Cards and Mobile takes an in depth look at what's happening in our Inside Fraud supplement.
